Symptom

You are migrating your domain to Bitpalace. At your old provider you had saved all your e-mails in a server mail box and had accessed them by IMAP. As all your mails are stored on the provider’s server, you do not have local copies. All are accessible online only. When you cancel your web space at your old provider you will lose your e-mails, too.

Solution

At most providers, mailboxes can be reached by a hostname of the provider in addition to your domain name. It is normally possible to access your mailbox although your domain name was already migrated to Bitpalace. Ask your old provider, which hostname you should use to access your mailbox. Normally you are using that hostname already, e.g. something like imap.old-provider.com.

a) Use the mail import function of the webspace control panel

Create a new mailbox on your new Bitpalast® host or use the mailbox already provided there during server setup. In the web space control center, click "Websites & Domains" > "E-Mail Import" (Active list view) or "Websites & Domains" > "E-Mail" tab > "E-Mail Import" (Dynamic list view). Then click the "Import Email Messages" button and enter the data for the data source and destination of the import. With the "Advanced options" link, you can enter further details about the data source there if required, e.g. port and encryption.

b) Copy yourself

Create a new mailbox on your Bitpalace web space account or use the mailbox that comes pre-installed with your server. Add this mailbox to your mail client software as an IMAP mailbox. Now you can access the old mailbox and the new mailbox at the same time.

Now simply drag your mails from the old mailbox into the new mailbox. If you have to migrate many or large e-mails, we recommend to do it step-by-step. If you migrate too many data at once, drag and drop might fail.

or

c) Copy online

Alternatively you can use a service such as Imapsync by Gilles Lamiral. Numerous such services charge you, but Imapsync is provided by the developer as an online solution free of charge.

Verify that all mails and attachments were successfully moved from your old mailbox into your new mailbox. Only afterwards cut the connection with your old mailbox.
